(00:00) welcome back to episode number two of the road to success series a university that we have never looked at and today we're going to talk about Arizona State University this is officially home to the largest Indian student Community with over 6 600 students being admitted last year which just validates the fact that this university has a really high international student acceptance rate so in this video we are going to look at the undergraduate application process as well as what the university has to offer

(00:27) for graduate students which means Masters as well as PhD students so first off looking at the undergrad application process you can apply to the university through Common App Coalition app or the direct College website itself take your pick now the best part is that they are optional in standardized testing policy and the documents that they require are bare minimum so your school and counselor report and once you get admission then you have to add in your final year report as well the cost to apply to ASU is 85 for international

(00:58) students which in my is a little on the higher side however they have some really great requirements that they've just outright mentioned on their website now this means that typically they would like um students to meet one of these following criterias either be in the top 25 of your graduating class have a three GPA which is roughly equivalent to 75 out of 100 and ACT score of 24 or an SAT score of 1180.

(01:28) all of these things are very very genuine and easily achievable so they're not asking for like you know a 99 percentile student over here now the best part is that this university offers rolling admission deadlines and what exactly do you mean by Rolling admissions if you look at all of their deadlines that they've listed here spring summer fall or even the transfer it's way closer to the actual start date of the college for 2024 applicants you guys will be starting next year so the spring deadline is actually in January just a few weeks before you actually

(01:58) start summer deadline few weeks before you actually start same goes for fall and transfer now these rolling deadlines means that the earlier you apply to the college the earlier they'll get back to you on your decision and their open year round so whenever you're ready to apply just submit your application and you should hear back in a few weeks the tuition fee that ASU offers is about forty thousand dollars per year so twenty thousand per semester and considering to like other colleges that we've looked at Ivy Leagues Elite

(02:26) universities where the fee touch like 70 80 000 per year this is a really affordable option specially considering the fact that this is before you get any financial aid so this is like the highest that you'll be paying absolutely that brings us to the types of scholarships and Aid that ASU provides now first off they do not provide any need-based Aid to International students on their website you may come across an application known as FAFSA just remember that the FAFSA is only for U.

(02:56) S citizens or permanent residents so as an international student that does not apply to you next they do offer some really great merit-based scholarships now the biggest one that I found was the new American University scholarship this offers ten to twelve thousand dollars per year and you can renew this each year as long as you have a good Merit now this is where that optional sat plays a big role now if you are an incoming student and you have a good SAT maybe above 1400 you could very easily get this 10 to 12 000 scholarship and it

(03:28) is renewable for four years which means that it can be applied to your actual tuition fee all four years of your undergraduate study now the next thing I want to mention is when you're applying to these scholarships you may be asked to write these following essays whereas they aren't required as a first year student maybe when you're renewing your scholarship they may be asked now with the deadline for this merit scholarship they've mentioned that November 1st is their priority deadline so if you want

(03:52) to be considered if you want to improve your chances make sure that you do apply by this deadline obviously these 10 to 12 000 per year is definitely not enough to cover all of the tuition fee which was 40 thousand dollars so this is where you can also work on campus as an international student now you're allowed to work 20 hours on campus per week and roughly you can earn anywhere between one to three thousand dollars a month now this is sufficient to Maybe cover up your tuition fee rent food other living

(04:21) expenses looking at the writing requirements that ASU asked this is like honestly the best part they have absolutely no writing requirements even their common app personal essay is optional if you've written one definitely suggest submitting it because obviously the more information you provide with your application it makes it stronger but if you're in like that last minute grind and you just need to submit your application you don't need any supplemental essays you don't need any Common App essays whatsoever so this

04:49) might be one of the reasons that ASU is so popular in terms of so many students applying because you know not everybody likes to do creative writing and them just abolishing the entire essay section entirely makes for a very tempting um university to be added on many students College list now moving on to the graduate application so applying as a graduate student you will use ASU specific application portal that's on their website um the deadlines can vary based on department but roughly we can say that fall 24 will be in January of 2024 and

(05:24) spring deadline is in October of 2023. now again depending on what department you're applying to you'll be able to get more specific deadlines accordingly the application fee is 115 dollars for graduate students again it is a little bit on the higher side and then GRE is optional if you have a good score and you're a good test taker I would again suggest giving it because this optional requirement can also vary from Department to Department as a graduate student you're obviously applying for a

(05:53) more research and accelerated based educational degree so they may ask you for some additional details now other typical requirements that they ask for are official trans scripts and a resume and sop two letters of recommendation and English proficiency tests now these may seem a lot and for graduate students it's a lot of things that you have to work on consecutively so if you guys need help at all with the entire application process definitely check out the ivy league 101 course uh the course entails every single step-by-step

(06:24) walkthrough of applying how and what documents you need specific templates to help you get started on building those documents including your essays as well as your resume with examples of even the Lors so moving on to the graduate funding now for graduate students unfortunately there is no need-based Aid as well they do have the same new American University scholarship which is the ten to twelve thousand dollars per year it can vary based on your department but but that is available to all International students

(06:53) um I do want to also point out that if as a graduate student you work for 50 of the year on campus as a TA or ra you can also expect to earn 24 thousand dollars which again can go towards like your tuition fee and help cut down that cost overall for graduate students who are looking at a tuition fee of what sixty two thousand dollars which is again a little bit on the higher side pretty average for you know all the degrees that we are looking at with various colleges but these ra and ta positions are mostly guaranteed for PhD students

(07:25) and optional for masters of science students now another um interesting program that I came across was the presidential graduate assistantship program this is more focused for the professors not for the students but basically if a professor at ASU is a part of this program they can offer their students their PHD candidates up to 100 of the tuition fee waiver so as a student ideally maybe you could look for a professor that is part of this program as a student you can't apply for the program yourself but if

(07:55) your professor is a part of the program they may be able to provide you a break on your tuition fee and just to give you an idea this 17 000 colors that you see as on-campus housing in meals this could definitely be cut down into half because as a graduate student you can live off campus maybe share an apartment and save on living costs in that sense also you can hear other part-time jobs so the entire tuition fee could be made up in that way as well alright guys so that covers up everything that I had for ASU

(08:21) and to answer the biggest question on whether this University is worth it should you add this in your college list I feel like ASU has some of the top engineering and science-based programs and it's definitely providing a good quality of education so adding this University here within reach or safety is a very good option they have a great student population in terms of international students and through all of their admits one thing is also very clear that they value the international diversity throughout their campus so I
(08:53) would definitely give this University a thumbs up now for everyone who's sticking around till this point I know you guys are waiting for the random question of the day today I want to ask what in your opinion is a realistic dream that you have that you can maybe achieve within two to three years right now personally for me I would say like a realistic dream at my age not that old but I would like to basically have my own house to live in like not pay rent every month um that's my dream so what is your
(09:23) realistic dream put that in the comments below uh like the video if you haven't already let's skip this one to 500 likes ASU is the first University we've had on the road to success series which isn't like an elite college and the reason behind that is I want to make more like reasonable and within reach universities breakdown as well and also show you guys that it is possible to get a very very large amount of scholarship and financial aid through these such universities too of course we'll tackle
(09:50) the elite universities but if we can get this video to 500 likes I may just do another University like ASU uh subscribe to the channel if you haven't already and I'll see you guys in the next one bye [Music]
